Getting started with data import from a CSV

In this guide, we will look at how to import leads into Saleswhale via a csv file. (If you are looking to import your data from Salesforce, read more here.)

Before we can enroll leads into campaigns for launch, you will first need to import your leads via a csv file into Saleswhale. 

Head over to the “Leads” tab in your account and click on the “Import Leads” button on the upper righthand corner of the page.

This will bring you to the step-by-step wizard to import your leads.

 

Step 1: Upload

Click on “Choose a File to Upload” or drag and drop your csv file into the box to begin the import. Hovering over “View All Supported Column Headers” will show a list of column headers that are used across all your campaigns.

Step 2: Map CSV Columns

Map the column headers from your csv to the corresponding Saleswhale fields.

You can choose not to map columns from your csv file to a Saleswhale field by confirming the particular column from your csv file is unchecked. Any unchecked, unmapped columns from your csv file will not be imported into Saleswhale.

Select “Next” to continue.

 

Step 3: Review and Validate

A summary of your imported data shows the number of leads in your csv that are:

  • without errors and warnings;
  • with warnings
  • with errors

By default, leads with warnings and errors will not be enrolled. However, you have the option to choose what to do with leads with warnings. List of warnings and errors. By selecting the checkbox corresponding to each warning, you will proceed with the import of leads belonging to that specific warning category.

Leads with errors cannot be imported. These leads will be stored as Unimported Leads following your import. Read more about suggested actions to take with unimported leads.

Note: Mouse over each warning category to display more information.

Step 4: Confirm and Import

If the current import batch contains leads that already exist in Saleswhale you can choose an action to take. Read more about re-importing leads.

You have the choice to name your current import. This can be helpful in identifying the import batch in the future, especially for lead enrollment into a campaign. Finally, click on “Finish Import” to complete your Import.
